Alberta Hats

Cowboy Hats I was created for a fundraiser by an arts organization here in Alberta, Canada (alas, it didn't sell). The theme was "Hats Off!", which immediately brought to mind the cowboy hats worn by ranchers. Though we are not ranchers, both my husband and I have cowboy hats which we wear each July during the world famous Calgary Stampede. I enlisted my husband to hold his hat at an angle, photographed it, edited the colour using computer software, and had duplicate prints made at a commercial photolab.

Then began the process of cutting the sheets of prints and manipulating the pieces until a satisfactory design emerged. I thoroughly enjoy the process of exploring different compositions.
