9 Cowboy Hats

9 Cowboy Hats  is the fifth in a series. The first piece was created for a fundraiser by an arts organization here in Alberta, Canada (alas, it didn't sell). The theme was "Hats Off!", which immediately brought to mind the cowboy hats worn by ranchers. Though we are not ranchers, both my husband and I have cowboy hats which we wear each July during the world famous Calgary Stampede. I enlisted my husband to hold his hat at an angle, photographed it, edited the colour using computer software, and had duplicate prints made at a commercial photolab.

After creating four cowboy hat pieces, in different sizes and with different compositions, I felt the repetition of the cowboy hats warranted an Andy Warhol type of approach in terms of colour. It is one of my new favourites!
