Street Script #2

As in most of my work, I took the photographs for 'Street Script #2" in and around my neighbourhood and the city of Calgary. The photos of these kinds of marks date from 2021.

I was intrigued by the colours of the spray paint, the lines and the geometric shapes in the symbols. The arrows and diagonal lines offer some dynamism to the design. Cropping each mark to a square takes them out of context but together in the grid format a unique language becomes evident.

Although I don't know the meaning of most of the marks, there are workers in various jobs that do know. The title came from what a script means to the actors and crew in a production, that is words and instructions.
